Patti Gilbert | Therapy For Young And Old

Patti Gilbert has a passion for dog training. It’s evident by the way she commands her two Shetland Sheepdogs. A quick command and they do just what she said.

Pattis’s love of animals started at a young age. Growing up she had several pets. It translated into her becoming a self acclaimed dog coach. Patti uses her talents to help juniors train their own dogs, but she said it’s a toss up as to whether the dogs or the teens get more out of it.

“The smiles that the kids give me when they have accomplished something that they didn’t think they were able to do, along with some of the dogs that come in with them, are just as wild and crazy as kids can be,” said Patti.

Patti has also started using dogs as a therapy tool. Several times a week she’ll take the dogs into local hospitals. The benefit is immediate as many of the patients light up when the animals enter the room. Patti said the companionship offered by the animals can help improve a patient’s physical, mental and emotional state.
